AvRaam (Avraham) Cohen born in 1968 in Tel Aviv, pursued his education in Industrial Design in both Holon, Israel, and Brooklyn, NY. During his Masters studies at Pratt Institute, he honed his craft while collaborating on diverse projects within Gaetano Pesce’s studio in NY, where he gained proficiency in cold casting techniques and explored a multitude of materials.
In 1998, Cohen established Vertex Product Development Inc., a design and engineering firm based in Great Neck, NY. After years dedicated to product innovation and development, Cohen’s fervor for artistic creation was rekindled. He seamlessly integrates his expertise in industrial design and manufacturing with his earlier ventures into sculpting, casting, and free-form modeling, infusing his artwork with a unique blend of techniques.
Currently, Cohen resides and works in Great Neck, NY.
Statement:
As an artist, I am captivated by the evocative power of color and its profound impact on the viewer’s perception. My sculptures, whether mounted on walls or standing alone, are characterized by vibrant, stratified colors, offering clarity from a distance yet provoking intrigue up close. I approach each piece with a spirit of exploration, continuously pushing the boundaries of conventional sculpting techniques.
My sculptures are a culmination of three decades of experience in product design, which I leverage to transform 2D images into compelling 3D forms. I am fascinated by the reinterpretation of light and shadow from these images, aiming to imbue my sculptures with depth and dimensionality. Employing a diverse array of molding techniques and materials, my creations often draw inspiration from the craftsmanship of others and the wonders of the natural world.
Through my art, I aspire to spark a fresh perspective in viewers, encouraging them to perceive the world through new lenses. I seek to bridge the gap between my sculptures and their personal experiences, inviting them to discover their own vantage point for interpreting my creations. Ultimately, sculpting is my mode of expression, a means of materializing my thoughts, dreams, and ideas in the realm of three-dimensional space.
