As an artist, I’ve always been awestruck by the immense skill and talent required to shape a solid block of marble into a lifelike representation of the human form or any other subject. From the initial planning and envisioning of the subject within the stone to the meticulous execution of the carving process, the art of marble sculpture is truly remarkable.
This piece represents my interpretation of a small segment of Antonio Corradini’s renowned sculpture, “Modesty/Chastity/Veiled Truth.” With a profound appreciation for marble sculpture, I’m particularly drawn to the intricate details such as fabric, hair, and elaborate patterns masterfully carved into the stone.
In creating this piece, I aimed to capture the illusion of weightless fabric draping over human flesh, a detail that has always fascinated me. Drawing from techniques honed in previous works, I painstakingly sculpted the cloth to convey the natural flow and drape as if it were gently resting on the figure’s skin, echoing the essence of Corradini’s original masterpiece.
